Atira Hotels Interns Katherine Creswell and Penelope Fisher Complete a Term of AI, Capital Markets, and Brand Strategy Work

Some internships are measured in shadow hours and coffee runs. Others are measured in what actually got built.

For Katherine Creswell and Penelope Fisher, their term with Atira Hotels fell squarely into the second category. Over the course of the program, the two took on live assignments spanning artificial intelligence, capital markets, brand strategy, and hotel operations. None of it was busywork created to fill a schedule. All of it sat inside the company's active priorities.

Real Projects, Not Placeholder Work

The scope Katherine and Penelope covered would be substantial for a full-time analyst. Across their time with the company, they contributed to five distinct workstreams.

Multiple AI-based engines powering a customized, self-learning hotel owner CRM. Rather than adapting a generic sales platform to hospitality, Atira Hotels is building a customer relationship system designed specifically around hotel ownership relationships, with AI engines that sharpen the system's output the more it is used.

Capital Markets team projects. Direct support of the transactions and analysis that move deals forward, giving both interns exposure to the investment side of the business alongside the operational side.

Hotel branding and soft-branding projects and analysis. Evaluating how brand affiliation, or the deliberate absence of it, shapes a property's positioning, performance, and long-term value.

AI-driven hotel operations expense control review. Applying automated analysis to the cost structures that determine whether a well-run property is also a profitable one.

Branded hotel automated and replicating market overview. Building a market analysis process that runs repeatedly and consistently rather than being rebuilt from scratch each time a question comes up.

Taken together, the list reflects a deliberate choice about what an internship should be. Every project connected to a real decision the company was making.

Two Backgrounds, One Standard

Katherine Creswell joined the program from San Diego State University. Penelope Fisher came from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University. Different institutions, different coursework, and different entry points into the industry, brought into the same set of problems.

That mix is intentional. Hospitality sits at the intersection of real estate, operations, finance, and service, and the questions worth asking rarely come from a single discipline. Pairing interns from different academic backgrounds tends to surface better questions than a matched set would.

Both arrived ready to work. Both left the team with output that outlasted their term.

Where AI Meets Hospitality

It would have been easier to hand two interns a research folder and a spreadsheet. Atira Hotels handed them AI infrastructure instead.

The reasoning is practical. Hotel ownership, operations, and capital markets are all being reshaped by systems that learn from their own data, and the professionals who will lead the industry in ten years are the ones building fluency with those systems now. Giving early-career talent access to that work is not a perk. It is the training.

The self-learning owner CRM is a clear example. Owner relationships in hospitality are long, layered, and highly specific, and a system built to track them has to understand the shape of the business it serves. Working on that problem means learning the industry and the technology at the same time, which is exactly the kind of exposure that a case study cannot replicate.

Building the Next Generation of Hospitality Leaders

An internship program is a long-term investment. The return does not arrive at the end of the term. It arrives years later, when the industry is staffed by people who learned how to think about it properly the first time.

Celebrating the People Behind the Work

Katherine and Penelope raised the standard for what Atira Hotels expects from this program, and for what the company expects of itself in running it. They asked sharp questions, pushed back where something did not hold up, and left behind work the team continues to build on.

Atira Hotels is proud to celebrate both of them, and grateful for the energy and rigor they brought to every project. Wherever they go next, the industry is better for having them in it.
